Quality Control & Procedure
Sainsbury provides full environmental building services: heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, sanitation, gas and electrical. Both installation and maintenance are undertaken. The company has its own in-house ventilation and ductwork division, and its own transport fleet.
Design and build has been a major area of growth in recent years. Strong in-house design capabilities, warranted by external scrutineers, enable the company to suggest ways in which projects can be improved, with attendant cost and time benefits for the client. While maintaining traditional skills, the drawing office is fully computerised, supporting all major CAD packages, able to receive data on disk, by email or ISDN.
Recognising the importance of having a highly skilled and motivated workforce, Sainsbury directly employ all site and installation staff. With on-going training programmes for employees and directors alike, the Sainsbury skills base gets ever-broader, and improvements in working practices develop continuously. It’s a strategic aim for all employees to become multi-skilled, and to this end, new consultants have been appointed to make sure the company gets the skills necessary to meet the demands of a fast-changing industry.
There is annual assessment of training under the Investors in People programme, and some two and a half years in advance of the deadline, all Sainsbury staff had their relevant Skill Cards - proof once more of the company's proactive approach in anticipating regulatory requirements.
With legislation and directives governing health and safety and employment issues growing ever more stringent and complex, Sainsbury have appointed the consultants Croner (one of the major players in the industry) to make sure they stay abreast of developments.
Sainsbury are compliant in practise: this is not mere lip service. The environmental policy is also strictly adhered to. Health, welfare and safety issues are dealt with scrupulously, as befits a member of HVCA. Long-term ISO9002 accreditation is testament to Sainsbury's culture of quality.
